Your legacy BI estate is maintenance debt that compounds every month.
BI Modernization replaces your legacy report estate with a certified Power BI foundation your business will actually trust and use. Two tracks. Sized to your situation. Fixed price.
Not sure of your tier or where to start? The Health Check is a short scoping session that produces a confirmed tier recommendation and indicative timeline before any commercial commitment.
- Report inventory summary — count, source tool, complexity
- Confirmed tier: Essential, Professional or Enterprise
- Indicative timeline and fixed price range
- Rationalization potential estimate — what can be retired
Two very different problems. We solve both.
Tell us your situation and we will tell you exactly what the engagement looks like, what it costs and how long it takes. Both paths end in the same place: a certified Power BI estate your business trusts.
“We’re stuck on SSRS / Crystal / Cognos and we need to get off it.”
You have a live legacy BI tool, SSRS, Crystal Reports, Cognos, MicroStrategy or Tableau — and a report estate that needs migrating to Power BI. The trigger is usually a deadline: a license renewal that no longer makes financial sense, a vendor support window closing, or a directive from the top to get off the legacy platform before it becomes a crisis.
- Every report in your estate cataloged, scored and rationalized before migration begins — typically 30–50% can be retired immediately, which changes the cost and timeline fundamentally
- Certified semantic model built first, then reports migrated on top — so the business gets trusted outputs, not the same broken data in a new interface
- Fixed price confirmed from your report count. You know the full cost before any work starts.
“We’re already on Power BI. The business just doesn’t trust it.”
You may already be on Power BI. The problem is the semantic model was bolted together over time, business users get different answers from different reports and the data team spends most of its capacity on maintenance rather than anything new. The tool is not the problem, nobody ever fixed what sits underneath it.
- Semantic model rebuilt with business definitions agreed between the data team and the business — one source of truth, consistent metrics, no more conflicting report outputs
- Report estate rationalized: retire what nobody uses, rebuild what matters, enable the business to self-serve on the rest without going back to the data team
- Data team maintenance burden reduced by 40%+ — freeing capacity for new analytics work within 90 days of go-live
Legacy report debt compounds every month you leave it alone.
The cost of an unaddressed BI estate is not just the maintenance hours, it is the decisions made on data nobody trusts and the new initiatives that never start because the data team has no capacity.
Maintenance consumes the data team
Business users do not trust the numbers
Power BI investment is not delivering
Vendor end-of-life creates forced migrations
Nobody knows what reports actually exist
Self-service analytics keeps failing

Four phases. Same sequence for both tracks.
Both delivery tracks follow the same four-phase methodology. The difference is emphasis, Track 1 leads with tool migration, Track 2 leads with semantic model rebuild. In practice, most engagements contain elements of both.
Inventory & Rationalization
- Every report cataloged by source, owner, last accessed, business function and complexity
- Rationalization workshop: decide with the business what to migrate, archive or retire
- Complexity scoring: tier each surviving report by migration effort
- Confirms tier selection and builds the delivery plan
Semantic Model Rebuild
- Certified semantic model built on the existing platform or Microsoft Fabric
- Business definitions documented and agreed — consistent metrics and calculation logic signed off by the business
- Row-level security and data governance embedded from the start
Report Migration & Build
- Legacy reports migrated to Power BI on the certified semantic model
- Like-for-like first — then improved for usability and self-service
- Validation with business owners before go-live, not after
Inventory & Rationalization
- Self-service analytics enablement: business users trained to answer their own questions
- Power BI governance framework: certification process, change management, publishing controls
- Center of Excellence setup (Enterprise tier): COE structure, champions program, governance cadence
- 30-day post-go-live adoption support
The rationalization workshop is where we earn our fee. Every engagement starts here, before a single report is touched. We work with your business owners to decide what actually needs to exist going forward. The reports that survive this process are the ones worth migrating properly.
The certified semantic model is what most previous modernization attempts skipped. They migrated the report surface without fixing the data layer underneath. We build the semantic model first, then migrate reports on top of it. That is why the business ends up trusting the output.
By the end of the engagement your data team can extend the model, your business users can answer their own questions, and the data team is free to build new things rather than maintain old ones.
What BI Modernization does not include
- Data platform migration — if the underlying data warehouse needs migrating, that is a separate Data Platform Migration engagement
- Net-new analytics use cases beyond the existing report estate — available as follow-on once the foundation is clean
- ERP implementation or source system changes — existing source systems connected as-is
Tell us your report count. We’ll tell you your tier.
Tier is determined by the number of reports in scope after the rationalization workshop. You know the full cost before the engagement begins. Tier is confirmed by the Legacy BI Estate Health Check if you are unsure.

The platform migration is the investment that makes everything else faster.
A FastTrack product deployed on a fragile legacy platform will not deliver the performance and reliability the business expects. Data Platform Migration removes that constraint — then every TrueNorth product that follows deploys onto a clean, high-performance cloud-native foundation.
If legacy platform
If greenfield
Can overlap
Deploy on a foundation the business already trusts.
Once your platform is migrated and the Gold layer is live, FastTrack products deploy significantly faster — the data is already there, clean and certified.
